Matteo Candelari is EPICO’s EU Energy and Climate Policy Specialist in Brussels, where he works at the intersection of European energy transition and climate policy.
His work focuses on the decarbonisation of the energy sector, with particular attention to electrification, electricity markets, and the deployment of clean and innovative technologies. He closely monitors and analyses key EU legislative and regulatory developments, including the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and other climate policy tools, assessing their impact on Europe’s transition to a climate-neutral and resilient energy system.
Prior to joining EPICO, Matteo worked as a Political Advisor for the European Greens, supporting Members of the European Parliament on EU energy, climate, and industrial policy. In this role, he contributed to legislative work, policy analysis, and negotiations on key aspects of Europe’s transition agenda. Earlier in his career, he held roles in Brussels-based organisations and associations, focusing on policy monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and coordination of EU-funded projects. Matteo holds a Master’s degree in European Studies from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the Università degli Studi di Torino.
