On 4 November 2024, EPICO, in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and Decision Advisory Group GmbH, held a Policy Accelerator, bringing together stakeholders from business, government, research, and civil society. The goal: crafting actionable recommendations to advance carbon management (CCU/CCS and CDR) in Germany.
Key Focus Areas:
- Infrastructure and Business Models: Developing infrastructure and business models for carbon management.
- Regulatory Frameworks: Enhancing regulatory landscapes to meet climate goals and support industry competitiveness.
Daniel Dantine from the Decision Advisory Group GmbH exclusively shared insights from 25 expert interviews, offering a "Reality Check" on Germany’s Carbon Management Strategy (CMS) and highlighting key challenges and opportunities.
The Role of CCU/CCS: Technologies like CCU/CCS are essential for achieving Germany’s climate targets and securing the competitiveness of German industry. The topic is currently a focus in political discussions, particularly as part of the German government’s Carbon Management Strategy (CMS), which is under review, and the upcoming Carbon Dioxide Storage and Transport Act (KSpTG), currently in parliamentary proceedings.
SAVE THE DATE: The discussions will inform a policy brief, set for release in January 2025, providing concrete guidelines to strengthen Germany’s carbon management infrastructure and strategy.
