The European Office of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and EPICO KlimaInnovation kindly invite you to join our forthcoming panel discussion "How to knit EU gas price caps? A reflection on emergency measures on the energy market design", on Monday, 14 November 2022 from 12.30 to 14.00 h. The event will take place with a hybrid format, with panellists interacting in person, and the audience joining online via Zoom.
Our panel discussion will focus on the emergency measures on the energy market design. The European Commission and EU Energy Ministers have been seeking an agreement on how to address the dire increase gas and electricity prices for weeks. On 20 October, member states made a step forward, yet options on the table are still mere proposals leaning towards a cap on gas, and they leave a lot of questions open and a lot of space for better exploring measures and their implementation. For more information, please find attached the draft agenda.
Panellists:
- Dr. Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES)
- Dr. Bernd Weber, CEO of EPICO
- Mr. Cillian O'Donoghue, Policy Director at Eurelectric
- Mr. Marc Antoine Eyl-Mazzega, Energy and Climate Director, French Institute of International Relations (IFRI)
- Ms. Kira Taylor, Climate and Energy Report at Euractiv (Moderator)
The introductory remarks by the European Commission will provide a brief and condensed overview of the developments of the topic with a specific focus on the question of gas price caps and allocation of scarce gas within the EU. Panellists will then move on to a discussion and dive in depth into the challenges and opportunities, to ultimately make better sense of the actions taken and proposed. A Q&A-session with participants will follow.
We look forward to your participation and a fruitful discussion!
