Policy Specialist - Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems

We are looking for a Policy Specialist – Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems to join our agriculture workstream, and proactively contribute to developing it through project management, conducting research, drafting and contributing to the relevant publications, organising events and workshops, and expanding EPICO’s network.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Interviews of shortlisted candidates will be conducted online or in person in Berlin.

Role: Policy Specialist – Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems
Type of contract: Open-ended contract
Location: EPICO Berlin Office, Friedrichstraße 79, 10117 Berlin

Tasks:

  • Monitoring the relevant developments in the field of sustainable agriculture and food systems in Germany and the European Union (EU), including but not limited to topics such as sustainable land use, regenerative agricultural practices, new sustainable food models, Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform, expansion of the EU-ETS to agriculture, etc.
  • Conducting research on the state of play and developing ideas for future research on relevant topics.
  • Drafting publications, blog posts, opinion pieces, as well as internal briefs and updates.
  • Organising events, workshops, discussion series, and bilateral meetings with important stakeholders in the field.
  • Attending events and discussions on relevant topics in the field of sustainable agriculture and food systems.
  • Networking with relevant stakeholders and expanding EPICO’s network.
  • Supporting the organisation of events (e.g. public panel discussions, closed-door roundtable discussions, workshops, webinars).

What we seek:

  • A robust understanding of the ongoing developments in the field of agricultural and food system policy in Germany and the European Union.
  • The ability to contextualise relevant policy developments in the overarching political scenario and narrative pertaining to climate policy.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant subject, e.g. Agriculture, Forestry, Public Policy, Law, and Political Science.
  • Relevant work experience of 3-5 years.
  • Excellent command of German and English in written and spoken form.
  • Structured and analytical thinking.
  • A self-starter attitude with the initiative and creativity to develop new ideas proactively and independently.
  • A team player.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Open-minded, empathetic, and communicative personality.
  • Identification with EPICO’s mission and values.

What we offer:

  • An open-ended contract.
  • A gross annual salary in the range of €65,000 and €68,000, based on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
  • 2.5 days of leave per month (accumulable), and an extra day off on your birthday.
  • Regular check-ins with a supervisor to set expectations, assess goals and performance, and promote the individual’s growth and development.
  • A bi-yearly check-in with the CEO to review future progression.
